We’ve created an account on twitter – it’d be great to hear from anyone else who is involved in Wirral weddings!

We’ve also got our main website design business account too, where I tweet about web stuff, local Wirral bits and bobs and whatever else springs to mind!

Hillbark Hotel Marquee Must Go

January 16, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

I think I’m correct in saying that a top Wirral wedding venue must take down it’s wedding marquee to meet a planning enforcement notice.

The dispute between the Hillbark Hotel in Royden Park, Frankby and Wirral Borough Council has been ongoing for some time. This pdf document (pdf reader needed) details the request for removal of the marquee back in October 2004.

I understand that an appeal by the owners of the venue has been unsuccessful and the marquee must be removed.

Romance Dies Before Third Year

December 5, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

A recent poll by OnePoll suggests that the honeymoon period of a marriage is officially over after just two years, six months and 25 days. At this point in time of an average marriage both partners take their relationship completely for granted.

You’ll be more likely to:

  • leave your dirty undies and knickers lying around
  • husbands will start to leave the toilet seat up
  • husbands will own the TV remote control
  • 54% of wives will stop applying makeup
  • 66% of wives will never make an effort to dress-up
Does that sound like you?

Couples Save By Having Winter Weddings

November 28, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

The Telegraph reports that to-be weds are saving their money in the midst of the credit crunch by avoiding a summer wedding and getting married during the winter.

The report suggests that venues and catering bills are as much as 50% cheaper than during the peak season in the summer. The report is backed by trading figures from high street store Debenhams – the chain saw 22% of it’s total annual wedding attire sales and hires in November and December of this year, compared to only 4% for the same period last year.

I haven’t confirmed this to be the case by phoning around a few popular Wirral wedding venues like Thornton Hough hotel, Leasowe Castle or The Kings Gap in Hoylake. I rather suspect you might be able to negotiate a deal though.

So, a drop in degrees C can also mean a big drop in pounds and pence too!

Married Parents A Minority By 2031

October 17, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

A 2007 report on family life by the Office for National Statistics suggests that Britain is 24 years away from a situation where married couples will be a minority. The recently published report indicates the number of couples living together has increased 65% to 2.3 million in the last 10 years. In the same time period married couple families dropped by 4% to 12.1 million.

The report includes forecasts, predicting that by the year 2031 there will have been a 250% in cohabiting couples aged 45-64.

Real Flower Confetti

September 7, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

When we got married (over 10 years ago) we wondered beforehand if the vicar would allow us to have confetti thrown outside the church. At the time, it wasn’t a problem and our family and friends threw handfuls of paper confetti.

Nowadays however, paper confetti is often frowned upon and sometimes is not allowed. But don’t worry! The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company offers a fantastic, completely natural, superior alternative. Using a wide range of flower petals including:

  • Delphinium
  • Hydrangea
  • Rose
  • Skeleton leaves

confettidirect.co.uk have a great, unique product that also solves the problem of paper confetti – flower petals are of course biodegradable.

M&S Bridal Wear

July 23, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Today we learn that M&S are no longer offering their bridal range – well at least online that is. We don’t know the reason why as none has been given. Having just checked, Next currently only have a few items related to wedding wear too. John Lewis do a little better with a range of products including bridal lingerie, jewellery, fascinators and some bridesmaid accessories.

Maybe the high street stores find that bridal wear (possibly with the exception of lingerie) doesn’t sell too well online?

Brides Charged For Dress Fitting

June 25, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

This week the Telegraph reports that some wedding dress boutiques are now starting to charge a fitting fee, typically in the region of £30-£50. Whilst some dress makers refund that fee if the bride-to-be goes ahead and purchases a dress, not all are.

What do you think? As a bride-to-be would you be prepared to pay a fitting fee at a shop? Are you a Wirral wedding dress retailer – do you charge fitting fees?
